Dasvi (transl. Tenth) is a 2022 Indian Hindi-language social comedy film directed by debutante Tushar Jalota[2] and produced by Dinesh Vijan under his banner Maddock Films in collaboration with Jio Studios, as well as Shobhna Yadav and Sandeep Leyzell under Bake My Cake Films.[3] It stars Abhishek Bachchan, Yami Gautam, and Nimrat Kaur.


Plot


Ganga Ram Chaudhary, the charming and pompous Chief Minister of the fictitious state of Harit Pradesh, is arrested and taken into captivity. He names his wife, Bimla Devi "Bimmo" Chaudhary, as acting chief minister till he can post bail. Bimmo, who is initially shy and obedient, rapidly learns the ropes and positions herself as a prominent politician while undergoing an image makeover. Meanwhile, Chaudhary's charisma and street smarts earn him a following in prison, and he is treated preferentially. When a new superintendent, Jyoti Deswal, arrives at the jail, Chaudhary's life takes a turn for the worst. Jyoti, who is incorruptible and no-nonsense, revokes Chaudhary's privileges and treats him like any other prisoner. Chaudhary's attempts to bribe a judge to fail and his plea for urgent release is denied.



Following a disagreement, Jyoti humiliates Chaudhary by citing his lack of schooling (he dropped out in the eighth grade) and assigns him to work in the jail workshop constructing chairs because he is unqualified for any other employment. Motivated by this, as well as the fact that convicts aiming to obtain a 10th-grade diploma are excused from employment, Chaudhary determines to study and pass the 10th-grade examinations to obtain his high-school diploma. Jyoti suspects a swindle, but she is unable to intervene since Indian law provides Chaudhary the right to complete his schooling. Chaudhary struggles to stay focused on his studies, frequently falling asleep, until he is motivated by a history textbook recounting India's battle for freedom, at which point he begins to take his studies much more seriously. He states that if he fails his examinations, he would not return to politics.



Meanwhile, Bimbo gets ambitious and tries to make her temporary position permanent, proposing to Chaudhary that he pretend to be insane to seek refuge at a fancy hospital. Jyoti foils this by revealing Chaudhary's falsehoods, so protecting his political career (as people proved to be mentally unfit are disqualified from contesting elections). When Chaudhary has a small heart attack, Jyoti rescues him by giving CPR, which enrages Bimmo. Chaudhary advances in his academics with the assistance of convicts he has met, but he struggles in Hindi since he appears to have dyslexia challenges with the Hindi language and cannot perceive the alphabet. Meanwhile, Bimmo attempts to make Chaudhary's tests more difficult by arranging the release of the prisoner who is assisting him.

Science, as well as arranging the examination schedule such that the Hindi exam comes first. Jyoti agrees to assist Chaudhary after noticing the change in character that the emphasis on education has brought about. They gain mutual esteem as they progress.

Chaudhary's bail application is approved, and he is free to go, but Jyoti keeps this from him so he may concentrate on his studies. Chaudhary appears for his tests but is unsure of his performance. When he is released, he discovers that Jyoti concealed the approval of his bail application. When Jyoti mentions how education has changed him for the better and urges him to use his newly gained knowledge to benefit the public, Chaudhary blows her off and tells her that he will never change; Jyoti is upset by his rigidity. When Chaudhary returns to politics, he realises that Bimmo has hijacked the CM seat and that he has little support inside his own party. None of his ministers are interested.

Chaudhary reconciles with Bimmo when his new party wins the election. He declines the position of Chief Minister in favour of becoming Minister of Education.
